On Christmas break I am going to the movie theater with Zach or my dad to watch a movie called Star Wars the last Jedi. I am going to visit Rosa's house so we can watch The Iron Giant together. Soon on Christmas I am going to visit my old friend from South Oldham High School Joseph. Joseph's parents save alot of money to build their own home. I am delivering presents for the angels and let them come to our Christmas dinner. Rosa My favorite part of Thanksgiving is my family comes over and helping mommy cook. I spend time with my Mommy and Daddy and Jerrica. We will have Thanksgiving at my house in LaGrange. I will spend the day eating and cleaning up. My favorite Thanksgiving food is stuffing and pumpkin pie. Thanksgiving is Thursday November 23rd. Zolan
We have pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving and Christmas. I love pumpkin pie. My mom made pumpkin pie for me. I eat pumpkin pie for desserts. I drink coffee with pumpkin pie. Students enjoyed a small outing down to the Hillcrest Neighborhood to observe the Halloween decorations and different displays that were created. The Hillcrest Neighborhood is very passionate when it comes to celebrating this particular holiday and is a very popular area for trick-or-treaters. Students at the YATP are now on Fall Break. They will return on October 30th, 2017 to their normal jobsites. They recently attended a job fair through the Coalition for Workforce Diversity at Kosair's Shriner's Club House in Louisville and shared their resumes they created and collected resources and goodie bags. See below what some of them had to say about their experiences and view their pictures!
The seasons continue to transition just like our students. We have officially moved from Summer to Fall as of September 22, 2017. We asked our students to think about the Fall season, more specifically what holiday is celebrated in October? We asked about family traditions, the colors they often see, and if they had any favorite foods. We also bring up places they may like to go since Fall break begins in October. Kelsey Maddie Shane: Halloween is celebrated in October. Orange and yellow are the colors that remind me of Fall. My favorite food is pumpkin pie to eat in the Fall. My Mom and Dad pass out candy on Halloween to trick or treater's. They wear funny costumes. I am too old to dress up.
Noah B: What I like about Fall season is picking up pumpkins for October. The holiday we celebrate in October is Halloween. The color remind me of fall is red, orange, yellow and brown. I think there are a few good fall foods. I like to go to Huber's Farm to get pumpkins. Rosa: My two favorite things about fall are Halloween and turkey. The colors that remind me of fall are yellow, green and orange. the foods I think about in the fall are turkey and mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie. In the fall I like to pick apples and small pumpkins. My family goes to a farm to pick apples and pumpkins and we celebrate mommy's birthday. Zolan: the holiday is celebrated in October is Halloween. The leaves change orange, red and yellow during fall. The fall foods are apple pies and apple cider. Noah S: He selected apples and cozy socks as things that remind him of Fall. On Monday, August 21, 2017, Oldham County Schools allowed students to experience the once in a life time solar eclipse event from campus. With permission from parents, our YATP students were given the opportunity to share this same experience. To experience a solar eclipse like this event is very rare, so we were fortunate as a program to afford this opportunity to our students and staff on this day. he center of the moon’s shadow when it hits Earth. The sky becomes very dark, as if it were night. For a total eclipse to take place, the sun, moon and Earth must be in a direct line." The second type of eclipse is a partial. NASA indicated this eclipse is different because The sun appears to have a dark shadow on only a small part of its surface. The third type is an annular solar eclipse. An annular eclipse happens when the moon is farthest from Earth. Because the moon is farther away from Earth, it seems smaller. It does not block the entire view of the sun. The moon in front of the sun looks like a dark disk on top of a larger sun-colored disk. This creates what looks like a ring around the moon (NASA, 2017). Congratulations to our 2017 Super Seniors, Michael and Shawn. Both received their completion certificates at the annual picnic at Wendell Moore Park.
The Young Adult Transition Program hosted their 5th annual Luncheon. Local business owners that have assisted with the program by providing working opportunities to our students were invited, along with the support of Oldham County Employees and the Superintendent. The Luncheon was Italian themed and included a brief slide show of all the work the students accomplished in the 2016-17 school year. Super Seniors, M. Drennen and S. Woody, were recognized for completing the program and graduating to their next adult life programs. YATP Students countdown to Spring Break 2017! Students were asked if they could go on their DREAM/PERFECT Spring break vacation, where would it be? Who would you go with? What would you do? Here is what they had to say for their morning writing assignment:
Zolan: "Mom, Dad, brother, sister and me go to Owensboro. I play inside with iPad, Xbox 360 and iPhone. My uncle and aunt's home into the Owensboro city." Rosa: "My perfect spring break would be going back to Myrtle Beach again. I would get there by the car and my Dad would drive. I would take mom and my sister Garica with me. During the day we would go get the shells and eat out. At night we would eat dinner and swim in pool, like a mermaid." Noah: "My perfect spring break is to go research about the Titanic. I will go to see the real Titanic in the North Atlantic Ocean. We will get there with a research ship. I will take my lovely girlfriend, she loves to study the Titanic and we both know the Titanic stuff was filled right after the sinking 105 years ago. I would use the submarine to study it for our research." Shawn: "My perfect spring break will be in New York. I would get there by car. I would take my mom and dad. We would take a taxi to place, we would walk around, and we would go out to eat. We would go to New York for 7 days." Michael: "My dream spring break vacation is at Grandma Nancy's house. We're going to hangout and have a slumber party. Grandma Nancy will pick me up. We might go out to eat together. I would like to invite my friend Ryan to come over." Travis: "I wish to go to Talladega. I go by camper. I will go with mom, John, Mary and me. I will stay for 6 days. I like it because it my favorite Nascar race." |
