YATP students enjoyed one of their favorite days of the month by going out to eat on early release day. While this event is very fun for our students, staff provide support to them by assisting them with ordering from a menu, paying their bill, and working on their social skills in the community.
Michael, Noah and Travis picked Wendy's in La Grange. Rosa, Shawn and Zolan traveled down the road to Jumbo Buffet. Pictures from their outing are below.

Every Wednesday our YATP students have Culinary Day and work along side students in Chef's kitchen at the Arvin Center. On 11/2/16 our students made Pumpkin Mousse and were asked to write their reflections about their experience. They also had the chance to sample some at lunch today.
Rosa "I made pumpkin mousse with cream cheese, sugar, milk, pudding, whipped cream and pumpkin puree and spice. I liked pumpkin mousse because it's good. We made it yesterday. It's served cold so we can eat it on Thursday at lunch. Pumpkin is popular in the fall and pumpkin pie is another flavor thing." Zolan "I have not tried pumpkin mousse! Pumpkin mousse has cream cheese, pumpkin, sugar, pumpkin spice, vanilla pudding mix and whipped topping. Pumpkin mousse is a cold dessert." Shawn "I use cream cheese, sugar, and milk to make pumpkin mousse. We use a whisk, bowl and spatula. You have to wait overnight to eat. The pumpkin mousse is served cold. The other flavors are pumpkin pie and pumpkin roll." Noah "The ingredients to make pumpkin mousse are cream cheese, pumpkin mix, whip cream, and sugar. To make pumpkin mousse we have to use the beater and a bowl. It will take a few minutes to make it and then it has to be put inside the refrigerator for tomorrow. This is served cold. Fall is the season to make pumpkin mousse." Michael "I like the stuff and the taste of the pumpkin! It was easy to make by working real hard. We made the mousse in Chef's class. Chef's students and our peer tutor Andrew helped me through the work. I had it at lunch today and it was very good!" |
